Oleksandr Usyk vs Anthony Joshua: What have the fighters said?

Joshua knows he must claim victory on Saturday to save his career among the heavyweight elite.

He said: “That’s it. Must win. I like the pressure.

“It’s been tough. [Now] just get the job done. Instinct, stay focused, get the job done, God willing, victorious.

“It’s competition. I’ve got goals I want to achieve in the ring on the night.

That’s competition with myself.”

Usyk is inspired by competition too and insists he’ll be up for the fight once again.

He said: “We were born to compete for life, for belts, for everything.

“The one who does not compete does not live.

“All our lives are competition, for anything, for something, for somebody, that’s why we are competing.”

Meanwhile, Eddie Hearn believes Usyk could be looking to fight fire with fire by coming into his rematch with Joshua at his heaviest weight ever.

He told talkSPORT: “I think he’ll come in closer to 110kg.

“I think he came in about 100kg last time, so we’re talking about 10kg more… I think he looks a little bit fleshy in the pictures I saw yesterday, not fleshy like me, but a bigger heavyweight.

“I don’t know if that’s intentional, sometimes you’re just moulded into the heavyweight division and sometimes you’re intentionally putting on weight to fight a different style of fight.

“If you want to be quick, use your movement and be evasive, you want to be as light as possible, but if you want to stand your ground and push someone back, you want to have that little bit more strength and weight, so maybe he’s doing that.”

Joshua vs Usyk 2: How the heavyweights compare
The two stars met at Friday’s weigh-in.

The difference between the two will be 22lbs – over a stone and a half.

AJ stepped onto the scales first and came in at 243.5lbs (17st 6lbs), 3.5lbs heavier than the first fight.

Usyk followed up and weighed 221.5lbs (15st 11lbs), slightly more than last time out and at his career heaviest.

In terms of records, Joshua has a CV of 24 wins and two losses.

His first career defeat came to Andy Ruiz Jr in New York in June 2019 but he reclaimed his belts later that year in their Saudi Arabia rematch.

Usyk remains unbeaten as a professional with 19 straight wins across different weight divisions.

The Ukrainian is the smaller man at 6ft 3 to Joshua’s 6ft 6 and has a shorter reach, 78 in to AJ’s 82 in.

The two also operate out of different stances with Usyk a southpaw.

Both won Olympic Gold at London 2012, Usyk at heavyweight and Joshua at super-heavyweight.
