When will Chelsea Announces Timo Werner?
Chelsea could soon announce Timo Werner’s arrival at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea may announce their signing of RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner by the end of the week as time is ticking on the 24-year-old’s release clause.
Ajax ace Hakim Ziyech has agreed to move to Stamford Bridge and he will be joined by Werner in a new-look attack.
Lampard is also keeping tabs on Bayer Leverkusen winger Kai Havertz, who has scored 11 goals and registered five assists this season.
However, the 20-year-old’s £70m valuation may be slightly off-putting, along with the competition from Manchester United. Real Madrid and Bayer Munich.
The Athletic claim no clubs have yet submitted a bid for the versatile attacker.
Has Chelsea Sign Timo Werner From RB Leipzig?
Chelsea are set to sign Werner for a fee of around £49million after Liverpool pulled out of a deal for the Germany star. After the 20-year-old Leipzig striker reached a verbal agreement with the Blues as Frank Lampard will bring the Chelsea new signing Werner to the Stamford Bridge with £49million transfer fee.
What does Tammy Abraham say about Timo Werner joining Chelsea?
Chelsea ace Tammy Abraham is not concerned about his future at the club and is confident of seeing off competition from Timo Werner to remain Frank Lampard’s first choice striker, according to reports.
Abraham and his teammates expected the arrival of Timo Werner as Chelsea will officially announce their new signing from Leipzig this summer.
I don’t think the deal will cast doubt over Abraham’s future at the club, particularly as he’s yet to sign an extension to his current contract which expires in 2022.
Frank Lampard has tended to favour a 4-2-3-1 formation this term, which suggests that it will be one of Abraham or Werner selected to play up front.
According to Metro, given the amount being spent on Werner, it’s expected that the German would be the first choice but the Athletic claim Abraham is ready to step up to the challenge and is confident that he can keep his place.
It’s claimed Abraham has an ‘open mind’ about Werner’s arrival and he fully expected Chelsea to sign competition in the attacking third given they were banned from signing players last summer.
However, despite Abraham’s confidence, it’s claimed that contract talks could be ‘parked’ for now until the striker sees how Werner’s arrival plays out.
It’s claimed Lampard will look at ways of playing the two together in an exciting frontline but that would appear difficult given Chelsea’s wealth of options in wide areas, with the likes of Hakim Ziyech, Callum Hudson-Odoi, and Christian Pulisic to pick from.
Werner is set to join Ziyech as early summer signings at Stamford Bridge and Lampard is keen on signing Leicester full-back Ben Chilwell with the remainder of his budget.
According to Express.co.uk, Lampard is hoping that by strengthening his squad this summer he is able to close the gap to Liverpool and Manchester City.
And former Premier League forward Michael Owen thinks the addition of Werner will be a brilliant coup.
“The Bundesliga is a very strong league and you would say that he can translate that,” Owen said on Premier League Productions.
“He does it at the international level as well. I’ve been watching him quite closely since the restart and he’s already started scoring goals, he’s very quick, can cut in from wide, times his runs brilliantly and he’s very direct as well, straight at the goal, a bit like Torres.
“I don’t think he plays exactly the same but I always used to feel that Torres would take that first touch and then be motoring forward. I like him a lot.
“I’m sure Liverpool wanted him but maybe the financial implications and where we’re standing in the world at the moment put them off… but I’m pretty sure they wanted him.”
