Real Madrid Defeat Valencia 3-1 in Super Cup Semi-finals. Kroos, Isco and Modric on target as Los Blancos beat Valencia 3-1 away from home in the Super Cup first semi-final.

Match Report

Real Madrid breezed into the Supercopa de Espana final on Wednesday with a commanding 3-1 win over Valencia in Jeddah.

The first semi-final encounter of the inaugural expanded tournament was decidedly one-sided despite injury and illness robbing Madrid of Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale.

Toni Kroos broke the deadlock when he scored directly from a quickly taken corner before the excellent Isco struck a second in the first half.

Luka Modric completed the scoring midway through the second period to send Madrid into a final against either Barcelona or Atletico Madrid and consign Copa del Rey holders Valencia to an early trip home, Dani Parejo’s late penalty proving scant consolation.

5′ CLOSE! Varane’s header stopped by Domenech

Varane was on the scoresheet last weekend and he nearly opens the scoring here.

The centre-backs gets his head to a free-kick but Jaume makes the save from close range.

15′ GOAL! Valencia 0-1 Real Madrid (Kroos)

UNBELIEVABLE FROM KROOS! Madrid have dominated the early stages and they have taken the lead through some Kroos brilliance.

The midfielder spots Jaume is not properly positioned and whips in a corner that catches out the Valencia keeper.

Jaume gets two hands to it but he is behind the line and is unable to spare his blushes.

28′ Gameiro’s shot over the bar

Torres pulls the ball back to the edge of the box. Gameiro was not the intended target but it drops nicely for him and he carries it into the box before lashing high over Courtois’ crossbar.

39′ GOAL! Valencia 0-2 Real Madrid (Isco)

Carvajal slots the ball in behind for Valverde, who does well to pick out Modric in the middle.

Modric’s shot is blocked by Kondogbia but Isco controls the rebound and fires it past Jaume to give Madrid some breathing space.

41′ Double chances from Isco and Jovic

Isco climbs highest to meet the corner and sends his header against the far post. Jovic pounces on the loose ball but Jaume sticks out a leg to make a save down low. That should be 3-0!

57′ Isco’s shot over the bar

Valencia’s players back off and Isco is tempted into pulling the trigger from 22 yards. His effort is inches over the crossbar.

58′ CLOSE! Valverde’s shot wide out

Modric opts against shooting and, after sending an opponent to the floor, he pulls is back for Valverde. The midfielder’s shot from 15 yards is into the side-netting – half the ground thought it was in.

65′ GOAL! Valencia 0-3 Real Madrid (Modric)

Madrid have been brilliant today – and this is yet another impressive goal. Modric picks up the ball from Jovic on the right-hand side of the box, shows some good footwork and then sends an outside-of-the-boot effort spinning away from Jaume.

85′ James’ shot wide out

James goes inside his man, then outside and gets a shot away. He does not hit the ball all that cleanly and it ends up in the side-netting.

92′ GOAL! Valencia 1-3 Real Madrid (Parejo)

Ramos is adjudged by the video assistant referee to have handled the ball in the box and the referee Jesus Gil Manzano points to the penalty spot.

Parejo slams the penalty into the top corner, meaning no clean sheet for Courtois. It will surely be nothing more than a consolation, though.
