Liverpool FC finally crowned Premier League Champions 2019/2020 season as Chelsea beat 10 man, Manchester City 2-1 on Thursady night to end Jurgen Klopp’s side 30 years EPL’s drought.
Liverpool supporters have been made to wait to see Jurgen Klopp’s side clinch the Premier League title. Before the coronavirus pandemic brought a halt to the season on March 13, the Reds were on the verge of winning their first title since 1990. Jurgen Klopp has the taste of Premier League title as they finally declared EPL champions for 2019/2020 season following Chelsea a 2-1 win over Man City at Stamford Bridge after EPL restart season on June 17 over coronavirus pandemic.
Liverpool were crowned Premier League Champions on Thursday night after nearest challenger Manchester City lost 2-1 to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Jürgen Klopp’s team now have an unassailable 23-point lead at the top of the table, with seven games to play. It is the earliest any team in Premier League history has ever sealed the title.
Liverpool last won the English championship in 1990 and it’s the 19th time the club has won the domestic title in their history.
Kenny Dalglish, who was the last manager to lead the Anfield club to title glory 30 years ago, was effusive in his praise of the current incumbent: “Since Jürgen came in, he epitomizes everything the club stands for,” Dalglish said. “We’ll have a lot more days to look forward to as long as Jürgen’s there.”
Liverpool were in scintillating form on Wednesday night after they thrashed Crystal Palace 4-0 to put pressure on Manchester City ahead of their trip to face Chelsea on Thursday. The Liverpool result meant only victory would do for Pep Guardiola’s team, something they were unable to do after goals from Christian Pulisic and Willian saw off City and their title hopes.
Chelsea star makes a passionate call for Liverpool to be crowned Premier League champions
Liverpool is miles clear at the top of the Premier League table but if the season doesn’t finish they may miss out on being crowned champions.
Liverpool should be crowned Premier League champions even if the season cannot be finished. That’s according to Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger who believes Jurgen Klopp’s side has every right to claim the trophy.
Liverpool is a massive 23 points clear of Manchester City and needed just six points to seal the title before coronavirus led to the suspension of football.
Rudiger would be more than happy to see Klopp’s side lift the trophy as they have clearly been the best side in the top flight.
Honestly, as far as I’m concerned they can give Liverpool the title,“ the Chelsea defender told ZDF.
“At the end of the day they deserve it, they’ve had a great season and are leading the table with, oh I don’t know how many points.
“The thing is they were going to win the thing anyway, so I think the title is their ethically.
“Of course, I hope that the season can be finished and it will be sporting for everyone.
“But, as I’ve said before if we continue to play and there is a danger, and we ignore that while people are dying somewhere in the world, I don’t know if that would sit right on my conscience.”
Rudiger has also warned the Premier League over restarting too soon and has underlined it is not a race with other countries.
“All I can say is that this is not about who starts first or who gets an agreement in place,” he added.
