Kai Havertz shirt number leaked as Chelsea set to finalises deal

Kai Havertz shirt number leaked as Chelsea set to finalises deal. Kai Havertz might be given shirt number 8 wore by Chelsea boss Frank Lampard as Blues hoping to sign him after Timo Werner completed deal.

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is hoping to sign Kai Havertz when the transfer window reopens this summer.

If Chelsea are to sign Kai Havertz, they could feasibly give him the club’s famous No 8 shirt – worn by club manager Frank Lampard during his own playing days. It’s currently occupied by Ross Barkley over at Stamford Bridge. But with an exit for the England international looking increasingly likely, Havertz could be the next recipient.

Chelsea have enjoyed a flying start to the summer transfer window, with Lampard managing to secure two arrivals so far.

Chelsea beat Manchester United, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid in the race to sign Kai Havertz

The Blues boss agreed a deal to sign Hakim Ziyech back in January, with the Morocco international poised to leave Ajax for west London when the window reopens.

And, in the week, Chelsea confirmed the signing of Timo Werner from Bundesliga giants RB Leipzig.

Lampard isn’t done yet. With the Blues banned from signing players in last summer’s transfer window, they have money in the bank.

Chelsea haven’t come close to winning the title since their last triumph back in 2017, when Antonio Conte was manager.

And next on Lampard’s wishlist is Havertz, with the Bayer Leverkusen star enjoying a remarkable campaign over in Germany.

At the start of the year, the 20-year-old looked jaded.

With just three goals and a single assist to his name, Havertz appeared to be struggling under the weight of expectation over at the Bay Arena.

But, since the turn of the year, the Germany international has been nothing short of sensational.

In his last 15 matches, Havertz has been involved in 17 goals. That’s quite an achievement, particularly given how Leverkusen aren’t a side in the same ilk as Bayern Munich or Borussia Dortmund.

For Chelsea, he could be the ideal player to inherit the No 8 shirt.

It was made famous by manager Lampard, with the Blues boss shining with that verse on his back throughout his own Stamford Bridge spell.

When Chelsea signed Barkley, it was with the hope that the England international could go on to replace Lampard in the middle of the park.

But while the former Everton star has done that, his performances have left much to be desired throughout his time in west London.

If Chelsea were to give it to Havertz, it could work as extra motivation for the youngster.

Players rise to the challenge of squad numbers, particularly when they’re associated with legends as well-respected as Lampard.

Cristiano Ronaldo didn’t want the No 7 shirt at United but he used it to better himself, eventually doing the jersey justice.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has kept the No 14 shirt at Arsenal, using it to try and scale the same heights as club legend Thierry Henry.

So, now, it could be Chelsea’s turn.

The club haven’t replaced Lampard in the years since his move away but, in Havertz, they could finally strike gold this summer.
