Following the great announcement of Cristiano Ronaldo back to Old Trafford after 12 years, fans are looking forward to see the jersey number that will be given to Ronaldo.
The 36-year-old has returned to Old Trafford 12 years after leaving the club to join Real Madrid and will sign a two-year contract
Ronaldo used shirt number 7 when he was in Manchester United back then but Edinson Cavani is the current holder of jersey No. 7 in Manchester United and is not available to reclaimed back.
Owed to the size of United’s massive squad, there aren’t many shirt number options available for Ronaldo but there remain a few free for him to pick out of:
12 – The No.12 was last occupied by Chris Smalling who wore it from his arrival in 2010 to his departure a decade later for Roma in 2020.
It is not the most iconic of numbers in United folklore, with previous holders of the shirt including Ben Foster, David Bellion and Phil Neville, but a whole host of legends such as Sir Bobby Charlton, Denis Law and Paul Scholes wore it on occasion.
15 – Andreas Pereira’s season-long loan move to Brazilian side Flamengo means the No.15 is available.
The number was most famously worn at United by Ronaldo’s former teammate Nemanja Vidic, but was also previously worn by fellow wingers Jesper Blomqvist, David Beckham and Adnan Januzaj.
24 – Darren Fletcher is perhaps the most well known United No.24, with the number only ever being taken by five other players.
The last was Timothy Fosu-Mensah who left the club in January for Bayer Leverkusen. Beckham and Scholes both previously wore it as well.
28 – The only sentimental number available to Ronaldo is No.28, which has been vacated by Facundo Pellistri’s loan move to Alaves.
