Mauricio Pochettino believes he could make Chelsea serious challengers again by signing two players, according to journalist Alex Crook. Chelsea, who have underperformed this season despite the talent at their disposal, should be competing for Champions League spots instead of sitting 11th in the Premier League table.
Pochettino, who is now the leading candidate to be the next Chelsea manager, reportedly believes that the only things missing are a top-class centre-forward and a goalkeeper. If he can acquire these two players, he could turn Chelsea into title contenders next season.
A recent report from the Guardian suggests that Chelsea is close to agreeing on a deal with Pochettino. On paper, it should be a feasible target for Chelsea to challenge for the league title if they can significantly improve their conversion rate up front. Chelsea has created the second-most big chances in the league this season, behind only Manchester City. Defensively, the Blues have conceded the third-fewest goals in the league this term.
If Pochettino does take over at Chelsea and can bring in the two players he desires, it will be interesting to see whether he can improve the team’s consistency and challenge for the league title next season. It remains to be seen how negotiations will pan out and whether Pochettino will be successful in his efforts to transform Chelsea into title contenders once again.
According to Romano Fabrizio that Pochettino will join Chelsea in June after the contract and other documents signed.
