At Chelsea I was known as the academy player - former blues player reveals

Chelsea captain Reece James has revealed that he is closing in on a return from a hamstring injury.

He took to Instagram yesterday to post a story, stating he hopes to be “back to it soon”. The fullback has not played since the opening-day draw against Liverpool and manager Mauricio Pochettino said the player could be out for a number of weeks. A comeback against Bournemouth after the international break cannot be ruled out.

Romeo Lavia has started to take part in full training sessions with the first team this week. The Belgian was signed from Southampton last month but he hasn’t made his debut yet due to his fitness levels.

The midfielder had a disrupted pre-season and he needed to be put on an individual training programme to get him up to speed. However, he is now likely to be available for the trip to the Vitality Stadium next week.

Benoit Badiashile is also back in contention. The defender missed the start of the campaign due to a hamstring injury but it was expected that he would return to fitness at some point in September.

Updates on 6 Other Chelsea players
Armando Broja is said to be closing in on his return from an ACL injury. Manager Mauricio Pochettino has been cautious when asked when the striker could be ready to play again, so the player is likely to be eased back into things over the coming weeks.

Carney Chukwuemeka injured his knee against West Ham last month and he is set to be out for six weeks, with his comeback pencilled in for the start of October.

Trevoh Chalobah aggravated a tight hamstring in training after the Liverpool game, and he was expected to be out for a month. He could be available soon after the international break.

Marcus Bettinelli is still undergoing rehab on a knee injury. Christopher Nkunku (knee) won’t be back before December at the earliest, while Wesley Fofana (ACL) is not likely to play again this season.
