Cole Palmer and Levi Colwill both withdrew from the England squad recently ahead of some of their approaching games. Palmer, like Ollie Watkins who left the squad over injury concerns that are still rife, returned to his club to receive treatment. Colwill suffered a shoulder injury, just like Jude Bellingham, who also returned to his club, only that Bellingham went for further medical assessment. Both trained with England at the team’s training camp. After injury, they were sent back home to recover with the medical teams of their respective clubs.
England call-up
Cole Palmer and Levi Colwill are among the latest casualties in the England setup. It is currently plagued by multiple injury concerns. Palmer had been in excellent form for Chelsea. He was forced off with an injury that required further attention and management from the club’s medical staff. Another top-rated defender playing for Chelsea, Colwill withdrew after an assessment of his shoulder injury at St. George’s Park. There is a list of English internationals sidelined at present, and it is getting longer, Jude Bellingham being the latest addition following his departure due to a similar problem in his shoulder.
Impact of Cole Palmer
Last time, Palmer and Colwill’s absence cost England. According to Englandfootball, Lee Carlsley called Cole Palmer for the national team. Both of them have made tremendous progress in their recent club performances and were expected to feature against North Macedonia and Malta. Manager Gareth Southgate will need to find a replacement lineup, but he hasn’t called any reinforcements to replace them.
It is such a sad trend. And it continues to challenge England’s team with injuries. The best-performing individuals in the country are choosing to skip international duty. They are focusing on rehabilitation and, thus affecting their availability for club action.
