A lot has been made of the size of the Chelsea squad after the Blues signed 11 players during the summer transfer window.
Despite the size of Chelsea’s squad, Enzo Maresca has found a lot of success as we head closer to the January transfer window with his side sitting third in the Premier League table behind Manchester City and Liverpool.
They headed into the November international break off the back of a 1-1 draw against title rivals Arsenal in which goals came from Gabriel Martinelli and Pedro Neto.
However, due to the amount that Chelsea spent in the summer, the Blues may have to sell a couple of names in January in order to balance the books and stay compliant with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules.
Press the next page to see five potential departures from Stamford Bridge in the January window.
1. Ben Chilwell
Defender Ben Chilwell was a big part of Chelsea’s team before he suffered several injury problems both last season and in the season prior.
However, it was made clear by Enzo Maresca that Chilwell wasn’t part of his plans for the team and so he was seeking a move away in summer.
Manchester United were a rumoured destination, but no move was completed and Chilwell remains on Enzo Maresca’s unwanted list. He has made just one appearance this season and it was against Barrow in the Carabao Cup.
2. Christopher Nkunku
Reports have emerged recently, that Chelsea forward Nkunku isn’t happy with his current playing time due to the fact that Nicolas Jackson plays ahead of him in the Premier League.
In the Carabao Cup and Europa Conference League however, the French attacker has been superb, scoring nine goals in seven matches.
Manchester United have been named as potential suitors with LondonWorld reporting that Chelsea could be willing to sell Nkunku.
3. Enzo Fernandez
Another Chelsea player that could be unhappy with his game time is midfielder Enzo Fernandez who has been playing behind Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia in Enzo Maresca’s team.
Many are questioning his expensive transfer fee of £100m in January 2023 after some inconsistent performances by the Argentine midfielder.
Real Madrid are reportedly interested in swapping Fernandez for midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni who Chelsea were interested in over the summer.
4. Mykhailo Mudryk
Ukrainian winger Mudryk was bought by Chelsea in the summer of 2023 as a player that had a lot of potential to become one of the best wingers in the Premier League.
The Blues spent £62m on Mudryk who has yet to turn into the player that many expected at Stamford Bridge as he has made 72 appearances, scoring nine goals with nine assists.
He could be in line to leave due to the fact that the Ukraine international hasn’t been getting the game time that he would have initially expected when he joined the Blues.
5. Cesare Casadei
Casadei already had experience playing under Enzo Maresca as he was on loan at Leicester City last season when the current Chelsea boss helped the Foxes to promotion back to the Premier League.
He would more likely be a candidate to leave on a loan deal in January as the 21-year-old has been unable to break into Chelsea starting line-up so far this season.
The Italy U21s midfielder has been told to leave Chelsea by his national team boss, but no reports have yet emerged of any possible move on the horizon for Casadei.
