What Jadon Sancho said about Enzo Maresca's static in Chelsea

Chelsea's summer signing Jadon Sancho has been criticized for his underwhelming performances, with former Blues striker Tony Cascarino labeling him "far too easy to play against", according to Metro.

Sancho, 24, joined Chelsea from Manchester United on transfer deadline day, initially on loan, after a disappointing three-year stint at Old Trafford. Despite showing glimpses of his potential, Sancho's displays have been inconsistent, sparking concerns about his starting spot.

Cascarino's scathing assessment came after Chelsea's 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest, where Sancho started but failed to impress. "He wasn't bad, but being OK is a problem when you play for Chelsea," Cascarino told The Times. "There were no big mistakes, everything was neat and tidy, but he played such a conservative game."

Sancho's reluctance to take on defenders and engage in physical battles has raised eyebrows. Cascarino contrasted Sancho's approach with that of Forest's Noni Madueke, who consistently troubled Chelsea's defense. "Madueke was going at his full back all game, and it always felt like a battle for Forest to contain him."

Cascarino emphasized that Sancho needs to develop a more dynamic playing style to keep defenders guessing. "He needs to get a bit stronger and try to develop so that he can have a more significant change of pace. That will allow him to keep a defender guessing – at the moment, the full back knows there is very little chance of him trying to get to the byline."

Sancho's struggles at Manchester United were marked by a public bust-up with manager Erik ten Hag. His Chelsea move was seen as an opportunity for redemption, but unless he improves, his starting spot may be under threat.

With Chelsea's high expectations and competition for places, Sancho must adapt quickly to Enzo Maresca's tactics and demonstrate his value to the team. Failure to do so could see him dropped from the starting lineup.
