Super Eagles are on their way back to Nigeria from Libya

The Super Eagles of Nigeria faced significant mistreatment upon arrival in Libya ahead of their AFCON qualifier. Their flight was unexpectedly diverted to a remote airport, where the team was left stranded for over 13 hours without basic amenities such as food, water, or access to communication. No Libyan officials were present to assist them, and they were denied transportation to their hotel, which was three hours away. The situation escalated as the airport gates were locked, and the team was essentially held in limbo. These conditions created significant concern for their safety and well-being, leading Nigerian officials to call for diplomatic intervention.

The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has strongly condemned Libya's actions, describing the diversion and treatment as dangerous and unacceptable. Calls have been made for the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and FIFA to take disciplinary action against Libya. The Super Eagles have since resolved not to play the match under such hostile conditions, further intensifying the diplomatic response to the incident.
