Barcelona to hijack Chelsea duo in January

Barcelona sporting director Deco has set his sights on Chelsea midfielders Romeo Lavia and Carney Chukwuemeka, exploring potential loan moves in January, according to Metro. The Catalan giants aim to bolster their midfield amidst injury concerns.

Lavia, who recently returned from a hamstring injury, was previously coveted by Barcelona before joining Chelsea two summers ago. Chukwuemeka, meanwhile, has struggled for game time under Enzo Maresca, playing just 15 minutes in the Carabao Cup.

Barcelona's interest stems from injuries to Gavi, Fermin Lopez and Dani Olmo. However, head coach Hansi Flick remains uncertain about needing additional midfield reinforcements. The German has been impressed by 21-year-old Marco Casado and plans to give 17-year-old Marc Bernal opportunities upon his return from injury.

Chelsea, boasting an impressive unbeaten league run since the opening day, may welcome loan moves to trim their large squad. Ben Chilwell, yet to start a game this season, is reportedly attracting interest from Napoli.

Deco's pursuit of Lavia and Chukwuemeka indicates Barcelona's desire for midfield depth. A loan deal would provide valuable playing time for the Chelsea duo and alleviate Maresca's selection headaches.

Sources suggest Chelsea will consider moving players on in January. With Frenkie de Jong returning from injury, Barcelona's midfield options are bolstered. However, Deco's interest in Lavia and Chukwuemeka underscores the club's proactive approach to squad management.
