Reason Chelsea's Enzo Fernandez struggled on international duty last night

Chelsea began to see their first set of players take their place on the pitch during the painfully early first international break.

The World Cup holders were in action, with Argentina picking up a big win over Chile in their first fixture of the week.

There were a full 90 minutes on offer for Enzo Fernandez, who has started this season at Stamford Bridge with the captain’s armband in the absence of Reece James.

Enzo Fernandez struggles for Argentina

Fernandez is looking very important to manager Enzo Maresca in the Premier League, and looks as if he is showing signs of improvement from his first game of the season.

During the 3-0 victory Argentina picked up last night, TYCSports hinted that he actually struggled at times with the position he was being asked to play, although came through okay in the end.

They said: “Enzo Fernandez: 6. It was hard for him to play as an intern, but when he passed 5 he raised his level. He pressed high, recovered and 2-0.”

Chelsea fans waiting for the best of Fernandez

There will still be a large portion of Chelsea fans who are keen to see more from a player who once smashed their club record fee to join.

A lot of money has been spent at Stamford Bridge to get the midfield right, and they will be hoping for a significant return on that investment soon from the £200m+ duo of Fernandez and Moises Caicedo.

Romeo Lavia is already posing a big threat to the established duo in the middle of the park with a string of great performances in pre-season and at the start of the campaign.

He was recently sidelined due to injury, however there is hope he will return against Bournemouth for the first league game after the current international break.
