Chelsea in tough battle to keep 24-year-old star amid Real Madrid interest

Chelsea might see one of their captains leave the club next summer following reports of a potential move to top Spanish La Liga side Real Madrid.

The Blues have seen a huge investment done in their team this summer following the arrival of Enzo Maresca as the club's new coach. The likes of Joao Felix and Pedro Neto followed the former Pep Guardiola's understudy to Stamford Bridge as they look to bring back the club to the top.

While the squad is considered a great one at the moment and filled with talents, there are talks that a lack of silverware this season and Champions League qualifications could see some of the club's big names leave, with Recce James the more likely to leave - as per HITC.

The report claims that Real Madrid have shown interest in signing the Chelsea captain who is expected to be a long-term replacement for Dani Carvajal.

Carvajal is still at the club, but due to his age and the need to find a worthy successor, the club would like to integrate a new right-back to the squad while gradually laying off the experience Spanish defender.

Los Blancos have remained long-time admirers of Recce James but a move for the English defender might be questioned by many due to his fitness issues. Currently, James is sidelined due to an injury that has seen him miss Chelsea's first four EPL games.
