Why Chelsea haven't sell this player - club legend

Chelsea have left former Premier League striker Darren Bent scratching his head.

There are several players at Chelsea who are almost certain not to play under Enzo Maresca in the new season.

The likes of Romelu Lukaku, Kepa Arrizabalaga and Trevoh Chalobah have no futures at the club. The first two spent last term out on loan at AS Roma and Real Madrid respectively.

As for Chalobah, he missed the whole of Chelsea’s pre-season tour of the United States after being left at home. Chelsea have basically replaced Chalobah with Tosin Adarabioyo.

You would now expect the central defender, Lukaku and Kepa to all leave the club before the transfer window closes.

Darren Bent baffled by Romelu Lukaku situation

Lukaku has clearly wanted to leave Chelsea for some time. He left Stamford Bridge in 2022 to join Inter Milan on loan before moving to AS Roma in another temporary deal a year later.

With that in mind, Bent is confused as to why he has not been sold yet amid interest from Napoli.

Speaking on talkSPORT, the former Aston Villa striker said: “He is going, isn’t he? Clearly he doesn’t want to go back to Chelsea and they don’t want him, but [Antonio] Conte is desperate for him.

“I don’t understand why Chelsea haven’t done a deal yet. [Victor] Osimhen is at Napoli, Conte is at Napoli — try and get something done there. I think Osimhen wants to go to PSG.”

According to the website of journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Chelsea are demanding €35m (£30m) for Lukaku, which is too much money for Napoli.

It was recently claimed that, as things stand, Lukaku will not be leaving Chelsea this summer.

Chelsea set to sign Samu Omorodion regardless

Whatever happens with Lukaku, it looks like Chelsea will be signing Samu Omorodion from Atletico Madrid.

Atletico were waiting for Julian Alvarez‘s green light and with the Manchester City striker now closing in on a move to the Spanish club, that should pave the way for Omorodion to join Chelsea.

At 20, Omorodion does not have the most experience, especially compared to someone like Lukaku. The Spain U21 international only scored eight league goals while out on loan at Alaves last season.

Even so, bringing him in is the direction that Chelsea clearly want to go in, as opposed to giving Lukaku another go, for example.
