Marc Guiu has been one of the biggest surprises of Chelsea’s pre-season this summer, but is he ready to be thrown in for a competitive debut this weekend?
Chelsea kickstart their Premier League campaign on Sunday afternoon by hosting reigning champions Manchester City. For Blues head coach Enzo Maresca, he couldn’t have had a tougher introduction to the new season.
Marc Guiu, who’s just 18, has really caught the eye during the last month. He’s arrived from Barcelona in this transfer window as an upcoming talent and looked at home immediately around the Blues first-team group.
When it comes to the upcoming term, Guiu’s proven he belongs in Chelsea’s senior squad. Could we really see him come in for a Premier League debut on Sunday against powerhouses Man City, though?

Chelsea fans want Marc Guiu to start against Manchester City
Guiu has been a big talking point on social media going into this weekend’s league match against Man City. Interestingly, many Chelsea fans on X believe that the Spanish teenager should be named in the starting line-up.
Here below are some Blues supporters arguing the 18-year-old striker should lead the line on the opening day of the league season:

One fan said: “He’s (Guiu) the most fit centre-forward at the moment. Yes, start him.”
Another wrote: “I feel like (Guiu) he should have a start.”
A third user posted: “Guiu is more ready to start a match than Jackson since he has been on injury and hasn’t had minutes in his legs.”
One supporter claimed: “He presses like an animal and has pre season, while Jackson is coming back from injury. I’d let Guiu start because this is City so I don’t know how much of the ball we’re actually going to have.”
Another shared: “Guiu should start. Jackson could play 30 minutes as sub. Slowly bed him into the team.”
What experience does Marc Guiu have?
Remarkably, Guiu is still at the very infancy of his senior career. Chelsea signed the Barcelona academy graduate after just seven first-team appearances for the Spanish giants.
The energetic forward scored two goals in his seven games last season for the main Barcelona squad, but he’s looked mature and exciting during his first pre-season as a Chelsea player.
We’ve seen that inexperience and youthfulness is a common theme with the Blues recruitment. Even so, it would be some step if Guiu starts the opening day of the league season.
