What Antonio Rudiger did as Real Madrid beat Chelsea 2-1

Chelsea wrapped up their pre-season tour in the United States with a 2-1 loss to Real Madrid, according to Chelsea Chronicle.

The team, now under the management of Enzo Maresca, also faced losses to Manchester City and Celtic, conceding a total of eight goals in those two matches alone, highlighting defensive frailties.

Despite the setbacks, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola expressed optimism about Maresca’s potential impact at Chelsea.

However, the game against Real Madrid offered few positives for the Blues, with former Chelsea player Antonio Rudiger playing a key role for the Spanish side.

Rudiger, who left Chelsea on a free transfer two years ago, has enjoyed significant success at Real Madrid, including a Champions League victory last season.

After Real Madrid’s win, he exchanged shirts with his former teammates, showing he still holds a connection to his old club.

Chelsea supporters would likely welcome Rudiger back, given the defensive issues that have plagued the team since his departure.

Maresa has several centre-back options, including Levi Colwill, Benoit Badiashile, Wesley Fofana, Tosin Adarabioyo, and new signing Axel Disasi.

Additionally, Renato Veiga, if not sent on loan, could provide another defensive option.

However, none of these players match Rudiger’s experience and aggressive style of play, qualities that Chelsea's defense has sorely missed.

Fans are hopeful that Adarabioyo can fill the void left by Rudiger, though the pre-season performances have not been encouraging.

Chelsea's defense remains a crucial concern as they head into the new season, and Maresca will need to address these issues if the team hopes hest levels.
