Chelsea have been dealt a transfer blow after Napoli agreed a €30m deal to sign Benfica forward David Neres.
Napoli have been in negotiations with Chelsea over a deal to sign Romelu Lukaku from the Premier League side, though the Blues have remained firm in their £38m asking price for the Belgian.
The Italians have now turned their attention towards a deal for Neres and have reached terms on a €30m package including add-ons. Neres is set to travel to Naples to undergo a medical on Monday ahead of signing his contract with the club.
Neres is set to become Napoli’s fifth signing of the summer under new head coach Antonio Conte, following the arrivals of Matija Popović, Leonardo Spinazzola, Rafa Marín and Alessandro Buongiorno.
Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Napoli remain in the market for further additions but it remains to be seen whether Gli Azzurri return with an improved offer for Lukaku.
Much could depend on Victor Osimhen’s future as a resolution is sought for the unsettled forward. Chelsea and PSG have held talks with Napoli over a deal to sign Osimhen but have been unable to reach an agreement. Napoli value the Nigeria international at around £86m.
