Enzo Fernandez to miss out from Chelsea squad this season due to racism video posted

According to Metro, Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez captured Argentina’s players singing a racist chant about France after their triumph at the Copa America.

The incident occurred as the team celebrated their 1-0 victory over Colombia in the final, broadcast live on Instagram from their team bus.

During Fernandez's livestream, members of Argentina’s squad began chanting a song that originated among Argentina supporters during the 2022 World Cup. The chant, which is both racist and transphobic, falsely claims that French players are 'all from Angola' and includes derogatory remarks about Kylian Mbappe and transgender model Ines Rau.

The chant's lyrics, partially heard on the video before it was abruptly ended, include: "Listen, spread the word, they play in France, but they are all from Angola, they are going to run well, they like to sleep with trans people, their mum is Nigerian, their dad is Cameroonian, but on the passport it says: French."

Fernandez, who joined Chelsea from Benfica in January 2023 for €121 million (£106.8m), will have his return to pre-season training delayed due to his participation in the Copa America this summer. He currently plays alongside several black French teammates at Chelsea, including Benoit Badiashile, Axel Disasi, Wesley Fofana, Malo Gusto, Christopher Nkunku, and Lesley Ugochukwu.

As of now, Argentina’s Football Federation has not publicly addressed the video depicting their players singing the offensive chant during their post-match celebrations.
