Chelsea summer transfer window spending: Blue spent £95m to signed 6 players

Chelsea has been active in the transfer market this summer, acquiring six new players for a total of £95 million, according to the BBC. Some of these signings may have gone unnoticed as attention was focused on the European Championship.

Here is a look at the new arrivals and how Chelsea managed these acquisitions within the Premier League's financial rules.

Tosin Adarabioyo

The 26-year-old center-back Tosin Adarabioyo joined Chelsea on a free transfer after his contract with Fulham expired. Eligible to play for England or Nigeria, Adarabioyo has been a key player for Fulham but rejected a new deal there. Standing at 6ft 5in, he has taken the number four shirt and aims to replace Thiago Silva in the team.

Omari Kellyman

Chelsea secured Omari Kellyman from Aston Villa for a fee of up to £19 million. The 18-year-old midfielder, who can also play as a forward, joined Villa from Derby in 2022. He has signed a six-year contract with Chelsea, with an option for a seventh.

Marc Guiu

Chelsea signed Spanish striker Marc Guiu for just £5 million, taking advantage of his 6 million euro release clause. Barcelona attempted to renegotiate his contract, but he chose Chelsea instead, signing a five-year deal. Guiu, 18, scored twice in seven games for Barcelona's first team and is expected to be part of Chelsea’s first-team squad.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall

Chelsea paid £30 million for Leicester City's Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, who signed a six-year deal. The 25-year-old midfielder was instrumental in Leicester's promotion campaign last season, contributing 12 goals and 12 assists. New Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca knows him well from their time together at Leicester.

Renato Veiga

Versatile player Renato Veiga joined Chelsea from Basel for £12 million on a seven-year contract. The 20-year-old Portugal Under-21 international can play in central defense, left-back, or midfield. He spent last year at Basel after leaving Sporting Lisbon.

Estevao Willian

Chelsea agreed to sign Palmeiras winger Estevao Willian for an initial £29 million, pending his 18th birthday. The Brazilian will remain with Palmeiras for another year as he cannot move internationally while under 18.

According to BBC senior football reporter Nizaar Kinsella, Chelsea's financial strategy includes selling £85 million worth of talent, including Ian Maatsen, Lewis Hall, and Omari Hutchinson, to fund their purchases.

The club also balanced their books with the controversial £76.5 million sale of two hotels to a sister company. Additionally, Mason Mount's £55 million transfer to Manchester United was reportedly accounted for in the 2023-24 season.

Chelsea expects significant revenue from participating in the inaugural summer Club World Cup next season.
