Chelsea splashes €58m release clause to sign Nico Williams from Barcelona

Chelsea have made an incredible offer to Nico Williams, Diario AS understands.

The London club have offered to triple Williams's salary at Athletic Club with a €15 million per season offer. If Williams agrees, Chelsea will trigger his €58 million release clause and sign the player immediately.

Chelsea's offer blows Barca out of the water in the race for the scintillating winger. The Blaugrana recently offered to sign Williams but asked to pay his release clause in instalments. They're also are not keen on paying Williams the same high salary he earns at Bilbao let alone double or triple it.

You can see that Barca cannot hold a candle to Chelsea in the financial race but Barca may win the psychological battle as they did two seasons ago with Jules Kounde and Raphinha. Chelsea wanted both players but they accepted slightly lower wages to join Barca.

Nico is close friends with Lamine Yamal at the Spain national team and the Barca winger has often stated he wants Williams at Barca. Perhaps agent Yamal can work some magic.

The final decision will now be down to the player himself. He could follow the money and Chelsea's project like Barca's Marc Guiu, stay and repay the faith shown him by Bilbao or pursue glory by signing for Barca.
