Earlier this month, Premier League clubs (including Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Tottenham, Brentford, Brighton, Aston Villa, and other 11 clubs) voted for the retaining of the VAR while only Wolverhampton wanderers voted against the VAR next season despite the system's flaws. The Premier League will retain the Video assistant referee but they made six key changes to the VAR.
However, to improve the technology, six new measures have been introduced ahead of the 2024/25 season.
Six VAR changes for next season according to PGMOL:
1. Maintaining a high VAR intervention threshold for fewer stoppages.
2. Reduce delays due to semi-automatic offside technology.
3. Introducing announcements in the stadium after a decision has been changed following the use of VAR.
4. Implement more robust VAR training to improve decision consistency.
5. Increased transparency and communication around VAR.
6. Launch of a VAR communication campaign for fans and interested teams.
