Chelsea set to announce Enzo Maresca as new head coach

The Chelsea board is currently on a mission to secure the ideal successor for Mauricio Pochettino, who recently departed the club following a single season at the helm, marking a bold move by Todd Boehly that may spark mixed reactions.

However, the appointment of a new coach presents an opportunity for struggling players to rejuvenate their form, with Raheem Sterling standing to benefit significantly from a managerial change, particularly one known for an attacking style of play.

In the latest update on Chelsea's quest for a new manager, reports from The Athletic indicate that Enzo Maresca is being considered as a top contender for the position, alongside Thomas Frank.

Instead of opting for an established manager, Chelsea aims to appoint a promising individual capable of leading the club through a rebuilding phase.

Maresca aligns perfectly with the desired criteria, being 44 years old and embodying the profile of a rising star in the coaching realm, in line with Chelsea's vision.

According to insights from Jason Steinberg of The Guardian, discussions took place over the past weekend, with speculations suggesting that Maresca or the chosen candidate could potentially be named as Chelsea's new boss within the next 24-48 hours.

The player at Chelsea poised for the most significant resurgence

Despite being Chelsea's top-earner, Sterling has failed to fully justify his hefty £325k-per-week wage following his departure from Manchester City in 2022.

Although Pochettino managed to increase Sterling's goal contributions from six to eight this season, the English star has struggled to secure a consistent spot in the starting lineup.

Sterling, wearing the number ten jersey for Chelsea, started in 22 league matches last season. However, towards the end of the campaign, he was displaced by Mykhailo Mudryk in the team.

Throughout the season, glimpses of Sterling's former brilliance emerged, indicating that there is still potential for him to rediscover his peak form. The addition of former Manchester City coach Maresca to the Chelsea setup could play a pivotal role in Sterling's rejuvenation and return to his best performance levels.
