Chelsea didn't need Lavia, he has not play single game

Neville has also questioned the logic behind Chelsea's decision to sign Romeo Lavia from Southampton in the summer of 2023, calling it "mind-boggling."

According to Dailypost, while speaking on The Overlap, Neville said, as quoted by TBR Football: "They [Chelsea] went and bought Enzo, they go and buy Caicedo and then through their ego they went and bought Lavia on the final day of the transfer window for £54m and then they have to sell Conor Gallagher?".

"They didn't need Lavia, he has not even played a game for them anyway".

Neville claims that Lavia does not fit the profile of the sort of player that Chelsea should be targeting, as he is still unproven at the highest level and would have been better served by remaining at Southampton to further develop his game.

The former Manchester United captain also believes that Lavia's price tag was far too high, and that there were better ways for the Blues to have spent their money.
