Mauricio Pochettino and his players would have loved to have won a trophy this season after everything that has gone on, and the new ownership group would also have loved to have picked up their first trophy of their reign at the club. Supporters too felt like they deserved to witness a trophy lift after all the suffering from the last few seasons.

In words cited by Chels HQ, Nicol said: “This Chelsea side, when the onus is on them, and they’re in pole position to go and win a game and play the other side off the field, they’re just not capable. Villa and Manchester City, they were underdogs going in, they kept it tight and broke.
“That’s all they did. They didn’t go and outplay anybody, they haven’t gone and outplayed anybody all season. They get an opportunity in a Cup final to play against a bunch of kids and they just let it go.”
