Chelsea target another Malo Gusto as talks begin

Chelsea are reportedly plotting a summer transfer for France youth international Bradley Locko. The Blues could continue their policy of signing young players with the addition of the defender from Ligue 1 outfit Brest.

Locko has shone in the French top-flight this term, making 22 appearances and providing two assists. Chelsea could be in the market for a new left-back in the summer, with Locko reportedly monitored by Stamford Bridge chiefs.

According to HITC, the west Londoners have been watching Locko’s performances in France ahead of a possible transfer. It is claimed that he could replace Marc Cucurella, who might be moved on at the end of the season.

Cucurella has struggled for form since his blockbuster £62m transfer from Brighton in 2022. The Spaniard starred in his first season in English football with the Seagulls, but has been unable to replicate those performances at Chelsea.

The right-back has since gone on to become one of the best signings of the scattergun transfer approach under owners BlueCo. In the absence of the injured Reece James, the attack-minded Gusto, 20, has provided an excellent alternative on Chelsea’s right-hand side.

Gusto, who will likely start Sunday’s Carabao Cup final, admitted this week that he has admired James for some time. "Reece is a big player. I think one of the best players in this position," he said. "I love Chelsea from a long time ago. That's why I knew Reece for a long time as well."

It is unclear how much Chelsea will spend in the summer transfer window, with France U21 star Locko reportedly targeted. A striker is likely to be high on the agenda with Nicolas Jackson struggling for goals in his first season in the Premier League.
