Nicolas Jackson will not want to watch back the highlights of Chelsea’s disappointing 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest as he should’ve easily scored a late leveller
Chelsea summer signing Nicolas Jackson has been tipped for the miss of the season award already after spurning a glorious chance to earn a point against Nottingham Forest.
Jackson, 22, could’ve and should’ve levelled for the Blues late on in their dismal 1-0 Premier League defeat at Stamford Bridge on Saturday (September 2) afternoon.
Team-mate Raheem Sterling cut the ball back to him inside the six-yard box, but he somehow failed to get his effort on target, poking the ball over from close range.
He immediately knew what he’d done, placing his hands on his head as he laid down on the ground. Chelsea fans were fuming with their £32million summer arrival on social media.
One raged: “That was harder to miss than it was to score. That will be the miss of the season, how on earth has Jackson missed it?”
A second echoed those angered sentiments as they wrote: “How the hell has Jackson missed that. Was genuinely harder to miss than score.”
“How Nicolas Jackson missed this chance I will never know,” commented a third, while a fourth bemoaned: “And people were telling me we didn’t need Dusan Vlahovic.”
Rival fans, meanwhile, took their chance to mock them. One teased: “They told us this man is the reincarnation of Drogba.” And another joked: “Those clowns spent one billion and can’t even buy a bloody striker.”
Anthony Elanga’s strike less than three minutes into the second half proved to be enough for Forest to take all three points back to Nottingham with them.
Chelsea had an xG of roughly two but only tested Matt Turner with two shots on target despite their dominance of the ball. The results means Mauricio Pochettino has just four points from his first four league games with the Blues heading into the international break.
Looks like £1billion not well spent so far for Todd Boehly…
