Ten years to the day since they last won against Liverpool, Everton are hosting another Merseyside derby in the Premier League (PL). Carlo Ancelotti has revealed all Everton’s players who were on international duty have returned to the Club fit and are available for Saturday’s Merseyside derby.
Ancelotti confirmed earlier this week captain Seamus Coleman has recovered from the hamstring injury which meant he was unable to represent the Republic of Ireland.
Brazilian midfielder Allan is also fit having missed the Blues’ 4-2 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion last time out with an abductor problem, while Andre Gomes is available for selection again after a minor knock kept him out of that game.
Defenders Mason Holgate (toe), Jarrad Branthwaite (ankle) and Jonjoe Kenny (ankle) remain out but are making good progress in their recoveries.
Cenk Tosun is training individually as he continues his rehabilitation from an anterior cruciate ligament injury, while Ancelotti said the Club is hopeful Jean-Philippe Gbamin (Achilles) could make a return to First-Team action in late November.
Liverpool will be without goalkeeper Alisson Becker (shoulder) for the clash at Goodison.
Midfielder Naby Keita will also miss the game, as will Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
Sadio Mane and Thiago Alcantara have returned to training after self-isolating following positive Covid-19 tests, while defender Joel Matip could feature after recovering from a muscle injury.

A talisman in the red corner, Liverpool’s Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah has now scored two goals or more in his three last goalscoring outings.
Hot stat: November 2013 (D 3-3) remains the last time Everton led at any point in a game vs Liverpool, and April 2012 (L 2-1) is the last time they scored first in this fixture.
Just in time, he believes, as Jürgen Klopp’s side travel to Goodison Park on Saturday afternoon to face current Premier League leaders Everton.
“You can’t expect a better fixture than that!” the forward tells Liverpoolfc.com. “It’s many things. We know how a derby is – Liverpool against Everton is always tough and always a tough game away.
“I’m excited like my teammates. We can’t wait for it and I think all the fans also can’t wait for it.
“I’m very happy and excited to go again with my teammates to do our best and try to win games again.”
Mane missed the recent defeat at Aston Villa and Senegal’s friendly with Morocco as he was required to self-isolate following his diagnosis.
“It was a really, really tough moment for me – not only me, the situation right now is a bit complicated,” Mane reflects.
“When I was positive I was surprised because I don’t know why I got it. I tried to recover as [quickly] as I can and finally I’m back and I’m really happy.
“I just want to say to everybody to stay safe and keep themselves safe because it’s really important.
“This sickness is something which is incredible – you don’t understand until you get it. I don’t wish anyone to get it because it’s not easy.
“Hopefully everybody will respect the rules and the structure and be as safe as they can.”
Liverpool’s last three trips across Stanley Park to Goodison have ended in goalless draws.
Indeed, it was Mane’s injury-time finish in December 2016 that secured the Reds’ last victory at the home of their local rivals.
“I can’t remember the game!” Mane smiles. “I know it was a really, really tough game and at the end I scored the winning goal. The three points at the time were really important for us.
“Hopefully tomorrow I will score and the team will win, which will be massive for us. We need these three points right now.
“It has always been a dream for me to play this kind of game. Honestly, I think every single player would love to play these kind of big games in their career, for sure.
“Today I’m lucky to be here to play this kind of game. I’m really excited for it and look forward to it.”
The 237th Merseyside derby kicks off a period that will see Liverpool play seven games in a little over three weeks.
The Champions League is back on the agenda next week when the 2018-19 winners begin their Group D campaign away at AFC Ajax on Wednesday.
Looking ahead, Mane is confident the team have the experience and quality within the ranks to expertly handle such demands.
He finishes: “I think it is the best time for us and we are also used to it. That’s why we are Liverpool.
“You always dream to play these kind of games every season and to play every three days.
“For sure, we have great team spirit and the boys are very, very special – which is incredible. We are lucky to have this kind of squad.
“This is just the best time and we are looking forward to it.”
Liverpool Injury Update
Naby Keita will miss Liverpool’s trip to Goodison Park to take on Everton on Saturday, Jürgen Klopp has confirmed.
The midfielder will sit out the Merseyside derby due to a fitness issue; however, the Reds have no other fresh injury concerns to contend with following the international break.
Elsewhere, Alisson Becker is making positive progress in his rehabilitation, while Thiago Alcantara, Sadio Mane and Joel Matip returned to training at Melwood during the recess and could come into contention against the Blues.
Klopp told his pre-match press conference: “[It’s] very, very positive with Ali, it looks really good. [He’s] made big steps. I don’t have a timeframe, but it looks really good.
“That’s it, pretty much. Naby will not be ready. Apart from that, long-term of course, Oxlade-Chamberlain is not and so on, but they all came back healthy from the internationals.”
On Thiago and Mane, who tested positive for COVID-19 prior to the international break, the manager added: “We all learn on a daily basis about it. They are in training for five or six days [now].
“Then, of course, we assess that every day. We have our specific measurements, how we do it with heart rate and how we can measure if they are more fatigued than usual and stuff like this.
“They both looked really good, to be honest. We are very close with the doctors and we don’t want to – and would never – risk anybody.
“Usually in these cases, in at least the last three, four of five days of the quarantine the boys are already ready. They cannot come out of quarantine, but they are on treadmills, on the bike and these kind of things so when they start training again it is not that they start from nil. They have still a proper shape, so it should be fine.
“So many things are new in the moment and this is one of the things which is really new, but we try to be as sensible as possible.”
