Former Everton and Nigeria Super Eagles defender Joseph Yobo has chose the former Nigeria and Paris Saint Germain star Austin Jay-Jay Okocha ahead of Barcelona Legend Ronaldinho as his favourite player in a chat on Instagram.
The former Olympique Marseille star played with Okocha in the Super Eagles team for many years and he can’t hide his praise for Okocha’s quality.
Ronaldinho also played with Austin Jay Jay Okocha for a season (2001/2002 season) at Paris Saint Germain before joining Barcelona where he won the Ballon D’or award. The Brazilian Legend also won many trophies at Nou Camp but with all his achievements, Joseph Yobo said he will pick Okocha if he’s asked to choose between him and the former Ballon D’or winner.
In an Instagram conversation with Channels television, Austin Okon Akpan asked Yobo to pick between Okocha and Ronaldinho and he said:
“Jay-Jay, as the captain he wasn’t one of those that really enforces things, he is easygoing and then he leads by example basically but then on the football pitch he lets his football do the talking. A lot of things that we saw in training people didn’t see in the game because the game is always structural.”
The former Super Eagles star continued saying:
“He (Okocha) is one of the best I have ever seen and played with talking about technical abilities and was always fun playing around him because like I said he loves football. He enjoyed the game, if you are around Jay-Jay, you must enjoy football, he was a special player.”
Joseph Yobo retired from Nigeria super eagles immediately after 2014 world cup in Brazil while Okocha retired from national team in 2006.
Yobo has been appointed as assistant to Gernot Rohr by the Nigeria football federation (NFF) and he is expected to start work immediately football matches resume from Covid-19 pandemic break.
