I'm not seeking for Super Eagles job - Emmanuel Amunike

Former Nigeria Super Eagles and Barcelona star Emmanuel Amunike has said he is not interested in coaching the Nigeria national team after being rumoured that he could be the perfect replacement for Gernot Rohr.

The former Barcelona winger said he’s happy at his Egyptian club and he’s not ready to leave for any national team.

Amunike is currently the Sporting director of El Makasa in Egypt. The 1994 Africa cup of nations winner has now backed the Franco-German to continue as the head coach of Nigeria after his excellent work for the three times Africa champion.

In a chat with Brila FM, Emmanuel Amunike said:

“I’m not seeking for Super Eagles job, I have made myself clear, and I don’t need to be repeating myself. Nobody knows my life more than God like I said, if it is the will of God one day, I will coach the national team. You have a coach there in the team, and I have said it very clear, the coach himself has done very well so there’s no need for baseless rumours.”

The former Tanzania head coach continued by saying he is focused in helping El Makasa in Egypt for now and not taking the Super Eagles job.

“I have my own challenge that I have to face and see, I hope that post Covid-19 we will be in a position to see if we can reform our team and then get back to the plans we have in mind.” He concluded.

Emmanuel Amunike is not new to Nigeria coaching job, as he has discovered many players for Nigeria at the youth level after guiding the Golden Eaglets to win the FIFA under 17 World Cup in 2015.

He discovered many Super Eagles players like Victor Osimhen, Samuel Chukwueze etc and he was in charge of the Tanzania senior team at 2019 Africa cup of nations in Egypt.
