Chelsea Close To Sign Jadon Sancho, Shirt Number Leaked

Chelsea FC has out beat Manchester United in the race to sign Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund this summer transfer window, which shirt number Sancho will wear in Chelsea if the deal come through.

Chelsea fans are left in the dark as for which jersey number should be given to Jadon when the transfer deal finalise, Sancho is the current holder of shirt number 7 in Borussia Dortmund and there is no way he beat Kante for the jersey number in Chelsea.

Jadon Sancho is being pursued by a number of top European clubs, with Chelsea and Manchester United leading the race for the Borussia Dortmund winger. Sancho is valued at around £120million, but that will not put off pursuers who are set for a transfer tug-of-war over the England international.

Sancho is under contract with Dortmund until 2022, having signed a new deal in August that saw his wages bump up to a rumoured £200,000-a-week.

The 20-year-old has certainly justified his pay rise, bagging 17 goals and providing 19 assists in 35 appearances across all competitions this season.

Those impressive returns back up a similarly stunning 2018/19 campaign at the Signal Iduna Park, during which Sancho scored 13 goals and served up 19 assists in 43 outings.

Sancho is therefore rightly considered one of the hottest properties in world football right now, having moved to Dortmund from Manchester City for just £8m in 2017.

Lampard has ushered in a new wave of youthful talent this season, handing 23.3 per cent of minutes to youngsters this campaign.

A squad containing the likes of Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount, Christian Pulisic, Reece James, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Fikayo Tomori is a good indication of his trust in the next generation.

Billy Gilmour and Tariq Lamptey have also been given a chance to impress as the Chelsea academy made the most of the club’s recent transfer ban preventing new players being registered.

Compare this to United, where Under 21s have featured for just 13.7 per cent of minutes this campaign under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

A return to the Premier League beckons this summer, but it remains to be seen where the winger will end up with Chelsea and United both battling for his signature.

The Blues are already thought to have an advantage with Sancho believed to be a boyhood Chelsea fan and eager for a return to his home city.

And Frank Lampard may have one other key statistic in his favour when looking to lure his priority target to Stamford Bridge this summer.

According to CIES Football Observatory, Chelsea are leading the way for the percentage of league minutes played by players under the age of 21 up until January 1.
